CALP: Donate Time or Money
WE CAN DO BETTER THAN LONGVIEW!

CALP is working hard to prevent another coal-fired power plant from being built in our area. Many resident do not even know that they will be giving a tax break to a for-profit (big $$$) Massachusetts-based company that will pollute their air, ruin their beautiful mountain view, and will not even provide electricity to this area! We already have 10 power plants in our immediate area -- 7 of which are coal fired.

CALP is committed to educating the community about the REAL impacts of GenPower's proposed (and aptly named) Longview Power Plant.

You can help in the following ways:

• Write letters so that your voice is heard by those who make policy. Most importantly, write to West Virginia Public Service Commission (PSC) before August 20, 2004. Here is a form letter or write your own letter to:

  Additional letters to newspapers and other government representatives are important too. Details are in the Write Letters page.
   
  
• Talk to your family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Tell them about the plant, its pollution, its tax break, and its ugliness.
   
  
• If you can afford to, send a contribution. Send a check made payable to either "WV Sierra Club" (not tax deductable) or the "Sierra Club Foundation" (tax deductable). Please mail your check to:

• BECOME MORE INVOLVED!! If you want to do more, we want you! Please contact us and we will let you know when the next CALP meeting will be.
